Dreams

We needed a topic in here. It was driving me nuts to see it empty.

Anyways, let us have a discussion about dreams.

I've always thought dreams were just more then images played in our heads while we sleep.
Always thought it is more of a spiritual travel to other places and times we couldn't otherwise reach while in human form.

I use to have a whole writeup of dreams, spirtual travel, life after death, etc etc.

Waking Life was also a great movie (although hard on the eyes) that talks about what dreams are and talks about their meanings.

So, what do you guys think about them?

I remember Waking Life. Wacky.

I'm pretty sure that dreams are evolutionary in origin and purpose. I mean, if we did not dream that it would be much easier to wake us up and we need sleep to live for some reason. So when you hear a bird chirp or a horse whinnies (Where do you live if you're hearing horses at night?) it would be less likely to wake you up and more likely to just be incorporated into your dream. That way, the little insignificant sounds we hear can be whisked away instead of interrupting our sleep cycle.
The meanings of dream are probably either our mind trying to solve problems for the future so that we'll know what to do when faced with unlikely situations, or just random thoughts your mind comes up with to keep you entertained while aslumber.

We learned about dreams in psychology. I can't remember the explanation that she gave for dreams, but it made sense to me. Beyond that, I don't really have an opinion of dreams, other than they're usually hilarious.

We cannot explain consciousness, therefore we would be very hard pressed to explain dreams.
Roughly though, I would say that dreams are just the mumblings of your subconscious. Sometimes dreams have meaning, but I would say that sometimes they definitely don't.

Dreams have meanings, I think. I have recurring ones and they usually have something to do with what I want or how I feel. I've also had some scary dreams that seemed prophetic. Makes me sound crazy, I know...

I think dreams can have meaning, but usually are just random crap in your head. Probably from the same part of your brain that makes you sing the Power Ranger's in your head with no apparent trigger.
