Forum Behaviour Guidelines
Suggested behaviour we'd really like you to post by.
SPOILERS
Make sure they are clearly labelled. Writing 'CONTAINS SPOILER' in the thread title is a good idea.
HAS IT BEEN POSTED ALREADY?
Look for an existing active thread on a subject before you post one about it. Particularly if it's big news that would have likely already spawned a few threads. A quick scan over the first one or two pages is usually sufficient. Failing that, a quick search can always bring up the very subject you're interested in.
WE HAVE DIFFERENT FORUMS FOR A REASON
This allows people to read topics that concern them without wading through three pages on something they have no knowledge/interest in. Make sure you're posting your thread in the correct place.
DON'T CROSS-POST
Cross posting is when you post the same message multiple times in various forums. A thread or post, if on topic in the philosophy forum, isn't going to make much sense in the social forum. You only need to say something once.
IMAGE SIZE
Keep in-post images size down please. If a picture is likely to stretch the thread, just link to it instead. If you really want to post a large in-post picture, warn users with a *56k Warning* in the threads title. Not everyone has cable yet. You'll also need to host the picture yourself and use the [IMG] tags to link to it. Unfortunately we don't have the space to allow everyone to upload massive pictures to the forum at the present time.
DON'T POST FOR POSTINGS SAKE
Try to keep from posting a new thread asking the exact opposite question from another active thread. If someone posts a thread called "Who here likes dogs?", you don't need to start a thread called "Who here likes cats?". The first thread could hold both questions.
BUMPING
Bumping can be annoying, but if you're bringing an old thread back from months ago with good reason, there is nothing wrong with that.
YES IT IS A NICE AVATAR, BUT...
Don't start a new thread every time you change your avatar. Please keep all avatar discussion to one thread in off topic. Or you could just check an old post, as it would've changed. The same goes for sig pics.
QUOTING POSTS WITH IMAGES
When quoting another users post that contains an image in it, try to avoid posting the [IMG] tag again. It is simply deleted by taking out the [IMG] tags when you go to reply. This allows the forums to run quicker.
PRIVATE MESSAGING IS WONDERFUL!
Don't start a topic that is directed at one person as it can be put into a Private Message to them. You can contact a user by using your PM (Private Message) function accessed through your controls or by clicking on the 'PM' icon at the bottom of the desired persons post.
